GULU - Barely hours after Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake was granted temporary freedom at Arua Chief Magistrate's court, the law maker was re-arrested and taken to Gulu Magistrates court to be charged with treason.

While appearing before the Arua Chief Magistrate, Zaake was charged with unlawful escape from custody in the run up to the Arua municipality by-elections in August 2018.

He was granted non-cash bail of Sh50 million and directed to appear in the same court on March 22, 2019. His sureties were equally bonded at Sh50 million each.

The Arua Chief Magistrate, Daniel Lubowa set MP Zaake free on Friday at about 11:45am before he was re-arrested.

Zaake was then taken to the Gulu Magistrate's Court where he was charged with treason and remanded to Gulu prison until March 14, 2019.

The legislator was not allowed to take plea because the Gulu Magistrate's Court doesn't have the jurisdiction to handle capital offenses like treason.

He was however advised to apply for bail before the high court.

Zaake is one of the over 30 suspects implicated in the attack of the President's motorcade in the run-up to the August 15 Arua Municipality by-election.
