Fire breaks out at Workers' House

Fire has been reported at Workers' House in the city centre. The fire which broke out a few minutes after 5:00pm caused the alarm to go off.

According to eyewitnesses at the building, there was smoke coming out of the basement floor of the building. This forced all the people in the building to dash out.

However, fire brigade quickly responded and fire marshals took charge of the situation.

Reports indicate that the fire started from a car in the basement and was reported in the third basement of the building.

No damage or injury has been reported so far and the fire has been managed.

According to NSSF's head of marketing and communications, Barbra Teddy Arimi, the Fire Brigade arrived at the scene a few minutes later.

She says the fire was isolated and controlled in a small spot within a few minutes, saying only three cars were affected.

She says all NSSF staff based at Workers' House and all tenants were accounted for.

"We would like to express our appreciation to all our staff and our tenants at Workers

House who quickly responded to the alarm and evacuated the building," she says.

She adds: "We would also like to thank the Uganda Police Fire Brigade who responded quickly and managed to isolate and control the fire in a small spot. Their efforts contained the fire and prevented further damage."

She says the fund has put in place adequate measures, as contained in our Disaster Management Plan, at all our facilities to prevent such incidences.
