Stop demeaning teachers before pupils, MP warns

The woman Member of Parliament in Butaleja district Milly Mugeni has warned parents against discussing teachers in drinking joints and at the dinning table in the presence of their pupil they teach.

Mugeni sounded the warning while addressing Busolwe town council residents that had tuned up grace Abdulla Azizi graduation ceremony after acquiring master degree from Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

Mugeni noted that some parents in Butaleja district had developed very bad manners of openly discussing teachers in drinking joints, at dinning table while others abuse teachers in the presences of their pupils.

Mugeni also said the behavior reduces respect children have for teachers and children who do not respect their teachers often perform poorly in classes, adding that such acts also force teachers to lose the morale of teaching.

Mugeni also expressed her joy for the improved performance of government owned primary schools in Butaleja district, adding that parents should instead support teachers to see that academics in Butaleja district improve for the betterment of their children.

Mugeni also warned school administrators against sending away students from school because they have taken long to clear school fees, adding that this makes students lose lessons and yet parents by the end of the term he or she will have to clear the fees.

Sheikh Twale Yusufu Mbubi also warned district education officer in Butaleja against transferring lazy, drunken and bad mannered teachers to the Muslim-founded schools.

"We are not happy with the way teachers are being transferred in some Muslims found schools," he said.

He alleged that the district education officer transfers good teachers from Muslim found schools to other schools.

Mbubi also warned parents against turning their girl children at sources business, adding that all children should stay in school until the complete education.
