DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Shock hit residents of Bugome zone, Mpigi town council after a woman stabbed her husband to death.

Christine Bugembe, 29 is currently under custody at Mpigi Police Station after she was arrested for allegedly stabbing her husband Gerald Sande, 37 to death following a misunderstanding  which resulted into a fight.

According to Joseph Gafumba, the village chairperson, the two have had misunderstandings which have lasted for three years and they have been summoned to the village court very many times to sort their differences.

"The couple have been fighting every now and then, we have been handling their issues here at our village court on many occasions, we were shocked to find out  that the wife had stabbed her husband to death" Gafumba, the village chairperson said.

According to Gafumba, the incident happened on Friday night after the two developed misunderstandings and they started quarrelling and what followed was a fight.

Gafumba revealed that the deceased had on three occasions reported his wife to the village court over threatening violence and that she had attempted to kill him using a machete.

" The deceased came to  our village court three times saying his wife wanted to kill him, we thought it was their normal misunderstandings and we called them for counselling and they went back home" Gafumba said.

Nakato at Mpigi Police station following her arrest

According to Betty Mpiima, the couple's neighbour,  Nakato came to her place at around 9:30pm and said her husband had chased her away from the house.

"She slept here the whole night, she came and knocked at my door at around 9:30 pm with her two children and told me her husband had chased them away from the house following a quarrel which resulted into a fight," Mpiima said.

According to Mpiima, she allowed Nakato together with her children inside where they slept the whole night and left very early in the morning to return to their home.

Mpiima added that she had the two quarrelling on Friday night but she thought it was the usual quarrel between the two because they had often quarrelled and fought.

"I heard them quarrelling at night but I thought it was their usual misunderstandings because they normally fight and quarrel" Mpiima said.

It is alleged that Nakato bought a knife and took it for sharpening and waited for her husband to come back home and after a quarrel  that later resulted into a fight,  she pulled out the  knife and stabbed Sande in the chest three times.

She later carried her two children and went to her neighbours place where she spent the night and only came back home in the morning to deceive her neighbours that assailants had killed her husband.

She was immediately arrested by the village chairperson and handed over to Mpigi Police Station where she is being kept under custody.

The regional police spokesperson for Katonga, Joseph Musana said Police is still investigating the incident and condemned acts of domestic violence in homes.

He appealed to couples to sort their differences before they result into murder and appealed to the public to always report such incidences to Police.
