Uganda finish 5th at CANA Zone 3 swimming championships in Sudan

Fielding only ten swimmers, the Ugandan team finished fifth overall out of seven countries.

The Ugandan swimming team to this year's CANA Zone 3 Swimming Championship gave a good account of themselves collecting 36 medals as the annual CANA Zone 3 swimming championship ended in Sudan on Saturday.
 
Fielding only ten swimmers, the Ugandan team finished fifth overall out of seven countries. But like last year in Tanzania, it was the individual performances of the swimmers especially Kirabo Namutebi that again left a mark at the championship.
 
The 13-year-old Dolphins Swim Club continued to underline her dominance in her category, collecting nine gold medals in all her events to show further proof that she is currently the best in the region in her category.
 
Her golden performances came in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke races as well as in the 50 and 100m back, 50m free, fly, and 200IM races. He brother Tendo Mukalazi managed 6 medals (3 silver and 3 bronze) in the 50 and 100m breast, 100m freestyle as well as in the 200m breaststroke, 200m IM and 50m freestyle respectively.
 
Mercedes Mwebeiha also starred, picking gold medals in the 800m freestyle and 200m backstroke races and 2 silver in the 50m and 100 backstroke races.
 
Uganda also managed bronze medals in the 4x50 Medley Relay and the 4x100 Freestyle Relay with Kami Walusimbi, Kevin Rugaaju, Ampaire Namanya and Daryl Kyabayinze, Hayyan Kisitu as the architects.
