Ruganda commissions Hornby High School bus

Dr Ruhakana Rugunda thanked alumnus Bikangaga for her contribution to the education of the girl-child and the visually impaired children.
The old girls of Hornby High School, Kabale have donated a brand-new bus to their former school.
The bus, a 32-seater Tata LP 7099, was bought at a price of sh138m. According to alumnus Jennifer Kagugube, the money was contributed by the alumni, with the support of Grace Kampiire Bikangaga (fondly referred to as Nyinaboona wa Kigezi), a pioneer alumnus and celebrated champion of girl-child education in greater Kigezi.
The bus was commissioned by the Prime Minister of Uganda, the Rt Hon Ruhakana Rugunda.

The function was graced by high profile people from Kigezi who included the Governor of the Central Bank, Prof Tumusiime Mutebile, Theresa Mbiire, Prof Mondo Kagonyera, Prof Augustus Nuwagaba, Hon Andrew Aja (Kabale Municipality) and Canon Monica Sebidega, just to name a few.
The function started with a thanksgiving Holy Communion Service, during which the presiding minister, Canon Geoffrey Byarugaba asked the people from Kigezi safeguard to promote the transformative holistic education, which the Christian missionaries introduced.
The Chair of the alumni, Annet Komunda, also attributed the success of the bus project to Nyinaboona, who she said, had encouraged them enormously to push on with the project.

He asked the old girls of Hornby to keep up her legacy. Rugunda also delivered a donation of sh20m from the first lady, Janet Museveni, who also admired Bikangaga's practical crusade for women's emancipation and asked the alumni to emulate her.
During the function, the alumni and friends of Hornby High School, who included finance state minister David Bahati, raised sh38m and US$500, which will go towards the education of the visually impaired students and also, the project of the waterborne toilets.
Bikangaga ,94 was represented by her daughter, Margaret Kitahi and several members of the family.
