Children suffering from nodding disease syndrome in Omoro district have received support from the National Medical Stores (NMS) to bolster the management of the condition.

They received 200 matresses and blankets, cups, plates and food stuff through the Hope for Humans nodding disease treatment center.

While handing over the items, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah said that the items would ease the living conditions of the victims.

"We thank NMS for these items and the drugs they have been sending constantly to help people with the condition," said Oulanyah.

Dr Moses Kamabare, the NMS general manager said that apart from medication, the victims need better living conditions.

"That is why we chose to offer more support beyond treatment," Kamabare said.

Dr Medard Bitekyerezo, the NMS board chairperson declared his commitment, alongside other doctors to offer financial support to the mothers whose children are living with the disease.

"We as friends of Oulanyah have committed sh10m to support these mothers. The money will be put in a SACCO to support all the mothers," Bitekyerezo said.

According to the Omoro district LCV chairman, Douglas Peter Okello, the center has 25 in-patients while 187 other patients in the community are on the outreach program.
