WAKISO - Maria Namukasa, 79, a resident of Gayaza had been battling hypertension, diabetes, and body paralysis problems for many years.

She has been trying to access free medical treatment from government facilities in vain. However, Namukasa got her luck over the weekend when a health camp was organized by stroke Rehabilitation center in honor of The World Stroke Day recently at St Nuuwa Sserwanga Wampeewo Church of Uganda.

"There are always many patients at those health centers with few nurses to attend to us and you end up missing out on treatment all the time you visit the center" she said.

Over 3,000 people in Kyadondo constituency, Wakiso district benefited from the camp services.

The Wakiso woman Member of Parliament, Rosemary Seninde advised people to exercise, right from their bed rooms as it has done a lot of wonders for her and her whole family.

"We have many diseases these days all rising from poor eating habits and lack of exercising which burdens the whole body thus most getting stroke, among other diseases," Sseninde said.

Recently, President Museveni launched the National Day of Physical Activity initiative by the Ministry of Health aimed at curbing the rising cases of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cancer and high blood pressure among others. This will urge people to exercise and live longer.

Dr. Ibrahim Bukenya, head of stroke Rehabilitation center urged people to seek medical attention very fast in case of getting paralyzed, instead of mistaking it to be witchcraft.

Bukenya also called upon all stakeholders to come on board in the fight against stroke in the country and world at large.

At the medical camp, children were immunized, cancer screening, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling among others from Care Uganda, Rotary Club of Kasangati and wrap your love among others who offered free medical services for a full week.
