Floorball is fast taking root in Uganda. Two year old Uganda Floorball Association will next month start its first ever league.

Strides taken were evident at the weekend as Uganda's club Legacy Floorball Club edged Kenya's Tsunami 3-2 at Rainbow International School.

The win followed yet another win against the same opposition in Kenya in August.

Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team.

Men and women play indoors with 96-115.5 cm-long sticks and a 22-23 cm-circumference plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods.

Uganda Christian University, Legacy, Baghdad, Makerere University, Kamwokya Ghetto Gladiators, Mandela girls' School and Kings Floorball club have confirmed participation in the league.

Rainbow International School, Ambrosoli international School and Bondeko Primary Schools are also likely to participate.

Robert Zimula, a Sweden based Ugandan, started the sport in Kampala in 2015.

Zimula is an active player in Sweden where he is also a teacher.

Uganda has meanwhile been invited to participate in the International Floorball Federation general assembly in Prague, Czech Republic in December.

The assembly will coincide with the World Championships in the same city.
