Kumi-Residents of Odokoto Village in Mukongoro sub-county, Kumi district, were left in shock after a 40-year-old Constant Etiang was found lying in a pool of blood from wounds inflicted on him by rats.

According to Grace Ikomolot, Etiang's sister, the victim had engaged in a drinking feast for three days without eating or bathing, adding that the stench from his body might have attracted rats to feast on him.

It should be noted that due to his heavy drinking, Etiang started staying alone after separating from his wife, another reason to justify why rats took shelter in his home and multiplied in number.

"My brother chased his spouse over matters of domestic violence and started drinking daily from morning to evening, which he does on an empty stomach.

On realizing that he had not opened his door for three days, Etiang's family forcefully opened the door, and were shocked to find him bleeding severely due to wounds inflicted on him by rats.

Etiang who could not walk, talk or stand without support was rushed to Mukongoro Health Centre III after his conditioned had worsened.

Daniel Opolot, Etiang's neighbor said it was not the first time for the victim to been attacked by rats, which had fed on his toes and fingers for a long time.

According to Dr. Alfred Ogwang, a medical expert in Teso, anyone attacked by rats must be treated against tetanus such that the germs are deterred from affecting the whole body.

Kasim Ogode the village health team chairperson in Abuket parish in Serere district complained that it's not only humans that have been attacked by rats, but also crops.

He is worried that there might be a serious outbreak of severe famine in Teso if government doesn't address the issue of rats.
