43,000 condoms distributed in Kiryandongo

Benedict Okot, a health worker of Kiryadongo regional referral hospital said the turnout was good as the youth embraced HIV testing and counseling.

Over 43,000 condoms have been distributed in Kiryadongo district to prevent HIV infection and teenage pregnancy.

The young people who dashed for male condoms were first asked to register their names before each received a packet of condoms numbering to 144 condoms.

Some excited youth displayed the pink condoms.

This was during a sports gala and health camp in Kiryadongo district which brought different youth together, and HIV/AIDs testing and counseling as well as family planning was conducted.

The health camp and sports gala was organised by National Cooperative Business Association - Cooperative League of United States of America in conjunction with Youth Alive, Youth Empowerment Through Agriculture and Reproductive Health Uganda.

"I am a happy to receive free condoms and my girlfriend is going to be happy as we have protected sex to avoid pregnancy," Francis Kasamba said.

Prossy Birungi, 20, a student of Bweyale Secondary School displayed the condom and said the youth should use them to protect girls from teenage pregnancy.

James Katosi another youth said he was delighted to receive free condoms as he counted the number of condoms in the packet he received.

According to Joseph Tugume of Reproductive Health Uganda six huge boxes of condoms were distributed in the district.
