The Industrial Training Council (ITC), Management and Staff of the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) congratulate H.E General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

The Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) is quality assurance body in the business, Technical Vocational, Education Training (BTVET) sub-sector under the Ministry of Education and sports in Uganda. The Directorate was fi rst established by the industrial training Decree No.2 of 1972, which subsequently became the Industrial Training Act of 2003.

Our Vision:

To be a Technical and skills quality assurance body of international repute.

Our Mission:

To promote quality assurance interventions in Business, Technical and vocational Education and Training for the public and private sector labour market needs to accelerate national development.

Our mandate:

The Directorate of Industrial Training is mandated to develop occupational standards, regulate work based training schemes, apply and expand the Uganda Vocational Qualifi cations Framework, accredit assessment centers, asses and award Uganda Vocational Qualifi cations as provided for in the BTVET Act 2008.

Functions of DIT

The key functions of the Directorate are;

1.To identify the needs of the labor market for occupational competencies that fall under the Uganda Vocational Qualifi cations Framework (UVQF).

2. To regulate apprentices/ traineeship / internship schemes.

3. To foster and promote entrepreneurship values and skills as an integral part of the UVQF.

4. To ensure adequate and sustainable fi nancing for the operation of the directorate.

5. To accredit training institutions or companies as UVQF assessment centers.

6. To assess and ward Uganda Vocational Qualifi cations.

7. To develop, apply, expand and improve the purposeful application of UVQF.

8. To promote on the job training in industry for apprenticeship, traineeship and indenture/ agreement training and other training such as further skills training schemes.

9. To prescribe the procedure for making training schemes.
