Aziz Damani Masaka SS are up and running in the topflight of the Jazz Safari National Women's League.

Having proved a point last year to win the league at the first time of asking, they look the part of a side that can defend the title.

Earlier, voices from the Olila High School who should be their main challengers had expressed the idea of the defending champions posing an even stronger challenge this season.

On Saturday, the two giants faced off in a huge clash at the lugogo cricket as both sides looked to build a good start. It is important to remember that Olila lost against Damani in the final of the T20 showpiece earlier this year by 4 wickets.

A resplendent Immaculate Nakisuyi made a huge difference as Damani won by 2 wickets in a game of nerves. She took 3 wickets to restrict Olila to 153. Esther Iloku had given Olila some heft with a brutal half century of 63 from 112 balls before she was run out.

Nakisuyi weighed in with a half-ton of 51 from 53 balls before she was out caught by Kevin Awino but none the less Damani moved the board to 154.

With a bonus point at hand they lead the standings on 6 points, 1 above second placed Olila.
