Students were called upon to keep the school’s flame burning by ensuring they work hard

Members of St Peter's College Tororo Old Boys Association (SPECTOBA) on Saturday launched a vigorous revenue mobilisation campaign towards the refurbishment of the school's dining hall.

The sh72m project for which members have so far raised sh43m was witnessed by the school's administration through a donation of 11 out of expected 80 ten seater tables assembled in the dining hall.

The chairman of the initiative, Maj. Julius Emmy Kumanya, said the project was nothing unique but is aimed at making the students productive citizens who are able to change the world.

The effort of the alumni is a result of violent strikes in the late 1990's and early 2000s which left the school in turmoil following the retirement of its longest serving headmaster James Mudidi in 1998. He had steered the school for 23 years.

SPECTOBA chairman Wilbrod Owori called upon the students to keep the school's flame burning by ensuring they work hard and continue lifting the image of the school.

Owori who is also the executive director of Uganda Bankers Association, encouraged the students to stay dedicated and focused on what took them to school instead of being derailed by peer groups.

"Discipline, good attitude and focus will always take you to greater heights. Respect your teachers and be committed," Owori said.

A number of outstanding alumni gave moving testimonies to the students and urged them to follow in their footsteps.

Joseph Olokojo the headteacher appreciated the old boys for being great stakeholders in the development of the school which he said found in shambles when he took charge in 2005.

He thanked the alumni for renovation of the old chemistry laboratory and senior three classrooms, donation of text books, founding a scholarship program in memory of former Makerere university academic registrar Bernard Onyango and now the refurbishment of the dining hall.

"We are going to take advantage of this opportunity to teach the students dining etiquette and table manners," Olokojo added.
