MEDICAL INTERNSHIP

KAMPALA - The health ministry has issued new guidelines on medical internship, aimed at ensuring "quality and smooth management".

Those who wish to do internship will be required to apply for temporary registeration to the respective professional councils.

This should have been done by the end of August this year.

Thereafter, all professional councils are required to send in the names of the registered candidates to the internship committee.

This, according to a statement released by the ministry, should have been done by September 1.

"Application shall no longer be received at the Ministry of Health headquarters," said the ministry.

"The Ministry of Health has the mandate to deploy all medical interns to available training centres according to the capacity of the training centres and availability of trainers."

The statement was signed by Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, the acting director of general health at the ministry.

"The purpose of this press release is to inform potential interns, professional councils and the internship committee of the changes and request them to expedite the above process to enable commencement of internship 2018/19 by October 1, 2018," the statement said.
