BODY OF BOBI WINE DRIVER HANDED TO RELATIVES

The body of Yassin Kawuma, the driver of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, who was shot dead in Arua town on Monday, has been handed to relatives.

Michael Odur, the principal hospital administrator of Arua Regional Referral Hospital, confirmed the development to Arua One today.

Odur said relatives have taken Kawuma's body for burial.

FDC FLAGBEARER MUSEMA CASTS VOTE

The Opposition party FDC's flagbearer Bruce Musema has cast his ballot at Husuna Mosque polling station.

The voter turnout at this particular station has been gradually picking up since the start of voting.

'VOTING IS CALM' - EC

Earlier, Electoral Commission deputy spokesperson Paul Bukenya on voting so far.

"Voting has gotten underway here in Arua. We have 65 polling stations. We were able to distribute the materials. They got there on time. And then of course going through the preliminaries - opening the stations and necessary checking through the checklists to ensure everything is here. At the station where I am, there is a fairly good turnout, given the morning, and other voters are trickling in slowly. It is calm and we have started in a very calm way and it is our prayer that we progress like that through the day and finish well."

'BOBI WHEREABOUTS UNKNOWN'

MP Oyet says they do not know where fellow MP Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), who is supporting Wadri, is at the moment.

"We have moved to all the Police stations in the area but we have failed to trace him."

He says they hope Bobi Wine is brought to court and his family told of where he is.

'I SPOKE TO WADRI THIS MORNING'

Nwoya County MP Simon Oyet, who is part of Team Kassiano Wadri, says the independent candidate is being detained at Gulu Police Station, alongside a group of his supporters.

"I spoke to him this morning," he tells local media.

"We only hope that they are taken to court (...) We are on course, and we are hopeful the election will be in our favour."

While independent candidate Kassiano Wadri is among the 12 hopefuls on the ballot paper, he may not cast his ballot.

The former Terego County MP remains under Police custody following Monday evening's chaotic events.

"It is unfortunate he is not allowed to vote," says Tiperu, but that she is not a security expert to expound on his detention.

"But we have been constantly attacked by his team," she adds.

"Stoning a presidential motorcade is the highest insult this country can ever witness. It is a treasonable offence," says the NRM flagbearer, adding that she condemns the action by the people Police called "hooligans" on Monday.

NRM'S TIPERU VOTES

NRM flagbearer Nusura Tiperu has cast her vote.

In the company of former Arua Woman MP Aaanim Angupale, Tiperu votes at Kebir cell in Kenya ward-River Oli division.

"My support base is mainly women, and women are not violent," she tells reporters after voting.

Asked about the anticlimax of the campaign period, Tiperu took a swipe at the factions within Opposition party FDC, saying the "two camps were fighting".

"I saw my youths being stoned. Four of them admitted."

Voting is going on at the 65 polling stations in Arua Municipality in a key by-election to replace slain legislator Ibrahim Abiriga.

The ballot paper has 12 candidates, including eight independents.

They are Nusura Tiperu (NRM), Bruce Musema (FDC), Kennedy Madira (DP) and Jaffar Alekua (JEEMA) and independents Kassiano Wadri, Jackson Atima, Robert Ejiku, Francis Nyero, Sunday Anguandia, Alfred Nyakuni, Simon Avutia and Safi Bavuga.

It is a calm atmosphere at Central Market Cell, where New Vision's Bosco King is, and took these pictures.
