Bugiri goes to the polls

Byabakama said voting will start at 7:00am and end at 4:00pm at all the polling stations across the municipality.

Residents of Bugiri Municipal Council go to polls today to elect their Member of Parliament, mayor and councilors.
 
The chairman electoral commission, Justice Simon Byabakama,  while addressing a press conference at the district chambers on Thursday said a total of 16,222 voters are expected to cast their votes across the 28 polling stations within Bugiri Municipal Council.
 
He said all voting materials had already arrived in the district ahead of today's elections.
 
Byabakama said voting will start at 7:00am and end at 4:00pm at all the polling stations across the municipality.
 
He urged locals to exercise zero tolerance against violence in order to ensure a free and fair exercise.

"Don't cause chaos during the voting exercise because the law will take its course against you," he said.
 
Byabakama hailed the candidates, supporters and campaign agents and Uganda police force for the peaceful manner in which the campaigns were conducted.

"Please keep this good conduct through the remaining days of the bye election program "he said
 
He said participating political parities and independent candidates have been permitted to deploy not more than five observers per division.
 
Byabakama said the accredited observers will be permitted to limit their activity within the specified area avoid collision.
 
He said a similar program is being conducted across five other new municipalities of Nebbi,Apac,Ibanda,Kotido,Sheema.
 
Elections are to also be conducted in Njeru elect a mayor for the area.
 
The senior commissioner of police,John Nuwagira said polling constables will be deployed at all polling stations to ensure no violence occurs during the polls.
 
Nuwagira said 21 people had been arrested during the entire campaign period in Bugiri municipal council,7 of these were taken to courts of law on charges of defacing campaign posters, inciting violence and being a public nuisance.
