Police stuck with cows recovered from suspected thieves

Police has appealed to residents whose cows were stolen, to check with Police stations

Police in Butambala district is stranded with cows that were recovered from a suspected cattle thief early this month.

According to Butambala district Police commander, ASP Hashim Kasinga, the cows were recovered from Asadu Lukwalira, a resident of Simba village, Kibibi sub-county in Butambala district after an operation carried out by the Police.

The animals were recovered after Police was tipped off by a concerned resident who said her cow that had gone missing was allegedly seen at Luwalira's home.

When the Police raided Luwalira's home, they recovered six cows which he allegedly stole from different places and also recovered 36 animal skins.

Different people stormed Luwalira's residence and started identifying their cows which were stolen from them.

Luwalira, is currently facing 38 counts of theft at Kibibi grade one magistrate's court.

The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola on his visit to Katonga region recently, directed the regional Police commander for Katonga region, Francis Chemusto, and all DPCs to put an end to the rampant animal theft in the region.

Butambala district DPC Hashim Kasinga described Luwalira as a habitual offender who has been on the Police's wanted list for the many cases of animal theft in the district.

Kasinga appealed to the residents whose cows were stolen, to check with Butambala Police station to see if they are among those currently kept at the station.

"We appeal to the public especially those who lost their cows in theft to check with us here at Kibibi Police Station. They should come with evidence that the animals are theirs before they can receive them" he said.
