New Ugandan envoy to Ivory Coast received in Abidjan

ABIDJAN - Uganda's new envoy to Ivory Coast has presented letters of credence to President Allassane Quattara.

Nelson Ocheger was recently appointed by Pesident Yoweri Museveni as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uganda to the west African nation.

He is also Uganda's High Commissioner to Nigeria.

In a ceremony which took place at the presidential palace in the capital Abidjan, Ocheger assured his host of Uganda's commitment to further consolidate the cordial bilateral relations that exist between the two countries.

This was according to statement issued from the Uganda High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria.

Ocheger stressed the need for closer commercial co-operation between Uganda and Ivory Coast in investment, trade and tourism. He also called for closer technical collaboration in agriculture, education and infrastructural development.

On his part, President Quattara said his country cherishes intra-Africa trade and welcomed Uganda's commitment to improve commercial relations between the two sisterly countries in particular and Africa generally.

He informed his guest that Ivory Coast has witnessed tremendous economic growth since the end of civil unrest in 2011, adding that time is ripe for the two countries to work together for the benefit of their people.

Present at the ceremony were Marcel Amon-Tanoh, the Ivorian foreign affairs minister and Nurh Byarufu of Uganda High Commission in Abuja, amongother guests.
