City building closed over bombs

“We have, therefore, closed the building until further notice to give our teams time to do search and make sure the building is safe to be occupied again,” Owoyesigire said.

Police say they have been forced to close a city building after they, on two different occasions, found explosives abandoned there.

In a statement, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, said they were forced to close a commercial building on plot 66 on Kampala Road after finding a two suspected stick bombs there on Friday morning.

"The Police have taken the two suspected items away for proper disposal," he said.

Owoyesigyire noted that they on May 26, 2018, found three stick bombs in the same building. "We have, therefore, closed the building until further notice to give our teams time to do search and make sure the building is safe to be occupied again," he said.

It is not clear how many people were occupying the building at the time. It is also not clear who abandoned the explosives there.

Grenades are small weapon and they are typically thrown by hand by soldiers usually in war. They consist of an explosive charge, a detonating mechanism, and firing pin to trigger the detonating mechanism.

Once the soldier throws the grenade, the safety lever releases forcing it detonate or explode in process immobilising the target.
