NKUMBA - The quickly fading light may have put a halt to proceedings as the Nkumba University Women's Volleyball club took on Ndejje at the Nkumba Open although UCU ably defeated Sport -S in the men's final before it faded.

As defending champions, UCU were under pressure to reproduce last season's form which they did and more as they shocked Sport-S into submission.

Right from the first point,UCU played with a purpose and their receivers and attackers were all set with the task at hand which they pulled off with little issue.

"We played as a unit and that's what matters. All the boys were on point from the receivers to the attackers, we were all focused and did our jobs," UCU player Jonathan Rukundo said after the final.

Fortunately, before the men's semi-finals were straight forward their final started a little early which sits in stuck contrast to the women's semis finals.

Sport-S took Ndejje to the fifth set before the former was beaten 3-2 (16-25, 25 -17, 18 - 25, 25 - 23, 15- 10). Nkumba was also taken to the wire by UCU as they defeated the Mukono team 3-2 (25 - 11, 24 - 26, 25 - 19, 19-25, 15 -10).

The two teams had played two sets with both teams taking a set each and were even in the third before it got too dark for the players to see the ball.

Dates for the match will be communicated soon.
