The parents of baby Chelsea Tazenya who was stolen by a maid in Kira Municipality division were overjoyed to receive their toddler back alive and healthy.

Mariam Namisango and her husband Arthur Tazenya were excited as Chelsea kept calling for them repeatedly as the Police deputy spokesman, Patrick Onyango, handed the toddler to them.

The baby was stolen by Esther Mulekateete on May 22 and was recovered in Kachanga Islands in Kalangala district the following day.

According to the Police, Mulekateete had taken the baby to her boyfriend claiming that she had given birth to a baby girl.

She was nabbed after the Police tracked her using her parents who live in Mubende district, who cooperated with the Police to contact other relatives.

According to Onyango, the suspect will be charged with intent to confine and will be arraigned after the investigations have been concluded.

Reports indicate that the maid had worked for the family for only four days before the incident happened.

Onyango people to know the background of maids before employing them.

Parents speak out

"I am happy the kid is in our hands," Namisango said with a smile.

Arthur Tazenya said: "We thank God for bringing back our baby. This is a miracle."

The parents said they would take the baby for a medical examination after the Police surgeon carried out one and found that there were no injuries or cuts inflicted on the baby.
