UPDF airlifts Kiryandongo accident victims

The accident occurred at around 8:00pm when a Gaagaa bus from Lira rammed into a moving tractor, which had no lights and reflectors.

A military chopper has evacuated the remaining injured persons to Mulago Hospital for further management. 

Lands minister Betty Amongi said she coordinated with the UPDF to airlift the injured to Kampala. The Minister said on phone that UPDF is also sending a lorry to transport the bodies to Lira Hospital mortuary where they can be picked by the relatives. She said she will be receiving the injured at Kololo Airstrip in Kampala, together with health state minister.

The accident occurred at around 8:00pm when a Gaagaa bus from Lira rammed into a moving tractor, which had no lights and reflectors. The bus then lost control, rolled and collided with an oncoming trailed loaded with beers.

The Regional Police Spokesperson for Albertine region Allan Julius Hakiza, who visited the scene of the accident together with the Regional Traffic officer Irene Chelengat and Regional Police Commander Deo Obura, said the tractor is to blame for the accident, but noted that the bus was also speeding.

 Lango MPs at Kololo Airstrip

In the last two weeks, three serious accidents have happened on the Gulu highway, killing 32 people altogether. Two happened in Kiryandongo and another one in Oyam.
