48 pilgrims set off from Kanungu

Kabagambe said out 48 pilgrims, only two were from Anglican Church. He named those from Anglican as Justus Byaruhanga, the catechist for Karamutungye Church of Uganda in Kihihi parish and Stella Kyobutungi from St. Andrews’ Church of Uganda, Kihihi.

A total of 48 pilgrims left Kanungu on Wednesday to Namugongo ahead of 3rd June Martyrs Day celebrations.

The team headed by Furigensi Kabagambe had 29 females and 19 males. They left Kanungu at Makiro deanery on Wednesday morning and spent first night in Rukungiri at Nyakibale parish.

Kabagambe said they hope to spend the next day in Ntungamo town. He said all the pilgrims are very strong and hope they will all reach Namugongo safely.

Kabagambe said this year' pilgrims were many compared to only 33 who went to Namugongo last year. He said the eldest pilgrim this year is Richard Bambanza, who is 60 years-old, while the youngest is Ivan Ndungusi, who is now 18 years-old.

He said while it is the first pilgrimage for the majority, for Pricilla Kateeba, it is her 7th time.

Meanwhile 18 pilgrims who left North Kigezi Diocese on Wednesday were also reported to have slept in Rwashamaire and likely also to sleep at Kyamate in Ntungamo for their second day. Those from Nyakibale deanery are expected to leave on 19th May as it is their usual date to set off for Namugongo.
