Steven Mukwala's goal against Cameroon helped Uganda Hippos to defeat Cameroon in the 2019 TOTAL U-20 Cup of Nations qualifiers in Kampala.

The Vipers striker struck in the 44th minute of the game from an assist by left back Robert Kitabalwa at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo in the first leg of the second round.

The two sides will meet again in the return leg on May 18.

The Hippos eliminated South Sudan 8-1 on aggregate in the previous round to reach this stage, while Cameroon got a bye.

A win for the Hippos after two legs, will see them take on either Mali or Tanzania in the next stage of qualifiers.

At the end of the qualification phase, seven teams will join the hosts Niger for the finals. Players born on January, 1, 1999 or later are eligible to participate in the competition.

The 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will be the 15th edition of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. This is a biennial international youth football tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for players aged 20 and below. Zambia are the defending champions.

The top four teams after finals in Niger will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland as the CAF representatives.
