CAF acts on KCCA FC facility

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club will play their next CAF Champions League games in the country at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

The club has held previous games at their home ground at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.

KCCA will play their home games at Namboole after a directive by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

A letter from a CAF official Anthony Baffoe indicated that the facility at Lugogo is not conducive to host international games as per the continental body's standards.

Sources in KCCA said that CAF's decision was based on issues like the lack of a suitable seating arrangement for fans and media facilities.

Reacting to CAF's directive, the club's CEO Josephine Namukisa, said they will capitalise on the positive aspects at Namboole.

"The club has a chance to host a vast number of the football faithful at Namboole," she said.

The facility has a seating capacity of 45,202. The Star-Times stadium takes less than 10,000 people.

KCCA are in the CAF Champions' League group stage with Esperance (Tunisia), Al Ahly (Egypt) and Township Rollers (Botswana). They will play their first game at this level against Rollers on May 5.
