Kampala Archdiocese children pay pilgrimage to Munyonyo

KAMPALA - Over 2,000 children in Kampala Archdiocese under their umbrella body, the Bannakizito Association, paid pilgrimage to Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine on Saturday.

The day started with Holy Mass led by Archbishop of Kampala Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, who was flanked by 12 German visitors.

Led by Wolfgang Schleicher, some of the visitors were Cornelia Brant their association vice-president, Klan Konhle, Reland Niola, Irene Karr, Tanja Eiedrich, Redolf Karr and Lilian Joseph.

The Bannakizito Association was founded by Lwanga with the mission of assisting children to grow in the Catholic faith.

Lwanga urged the children to stick to the three pillars of the movement - promoting peace, sharing and loving one another.

He further urged the children to desist burning their schools; noting that if their predecessors had burnt the schools down, they would have had nowhere to study from.

The children came from Mitala-Maria,Wakiso, Entebbe and Kampala; the four vicariates (zones) that form the Kampala Archdiocese.

Fr Joseph Luzindana, the Bannakizito Association director, the movement was initiated to support children and youth grow in the footsteps of St Kizito, the youngest martyr, who was burnt at Namugongo.

Susan Nanseko, a Primary Seven pupil at Uganda Martyrs Girl's Primary School, Namugongo, is the head of the laity in the association. She thanked Lwanga for starting the association, which has helped them relate with one another.

She added: "I was elected children head of laity last year and I am now in P7. Since I became head of laity, I have become confident and grown to love my faith. In my secondary school, I will ensure that I continue serving my Church."
