Man arrested over vandalising telecom property

KABALE - The Police in Kabale district have detained a 23-year-old man for allegedly vandalising and stealing property belonging to Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL).

The suspect has been identified as Kitya Muwesi Ashraf, a resident of Masanafu, Rubaga division in Kampala.

Kigezi regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate said the suspect was arrested on Sunday when he when was found red-handed together with four others dressed in UTL uniform, having opened an inspection cover and pulling out wires from the ground.

The incident happened at about midday opposite the bus terminal at the main market street in Kabale municipality.

Maate said that the suspect and colleagues were dressed in uniform to disguise as company staff so that they are not suspected of doing anything wrong. However, following a tip off from the intelligence, Police swung in action and arrested him, but others escaped.
 
"We are investigating to establish where they got the uniform," said Maate.
