Police officer arrested over shooting student

According to Kigezi regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, the suspect, Offen Ogondua, was arrested on Saturday after allegedly shooting Emmanuel Twesigye, a student of Muhabura Shine Secondary School in the right leg.

KISORO - A Police officer attached to Field Force Unit has been arrested over allegations of shooting a secondary school student.

According to Kigezi regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, the suspect, Offen Ogondua, was arrested on Saturday after allegedly shooting Emmanuel Twesigye, a student of Muhabura Shine Secondary School in the right leg.

Maate said the shooting occurred while the Police was trying to quell chaos that had ensued during a football match between students of Mutolere Secondary School and those of Muhabura Shine Secondary School at Mutolere plyground on Saturday.

The shooting is believed to have occurred when the Police officer was trying to rescue Derrick Mugabi, a student of Mutolere Secondary School, who was fighting with Twesigye.
