Makerere student drowns in swimming pool

A student of Makerere University drowned on the university's swimming pool on Saturday morning.

According to the Police, John Paul Mirimu had gone for morning jogging with friends and on return, he went to swim.

Although reports indicate that Mirimu had no known experience in swimming, he jumped in the water at about 5:30am and could not get out.

Friends alerted the Police at the university when Mirimu did not resurface after jumping into the pool. He was pulled out of the water and rushed to Mulago Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mirimu has been an Information Systems student at the university and resided in Nsibirwa Hall
