Women football giants Kawempe Muslim SS defended their girls football title at the just concluded Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games that were held at Nkoma Secondary School in Mbale.

They beat Masaka SS 1-0 in the final. Stella Musibika scored the only goal for Kawempe Muslim, while their captain Mariam Nakabugo was named the most valuable player.

Sharon Nadunga (Kibuli SS) and Valentino Opendi (Kasawo S.S) were the top scorers in both girls and boys soccer respectively with seven goals each.

Kibuli SS retained the overall title at the four days event that climaxed on Monday. They won the handball (boys and boys) and badminton (boys and girls) titles respectively.  But they were also runners up in the netball and boys' soccer categories after losing to Ngando Wamala S.S (29-30) and Bulo Parents 5-4 in penalties after goalless draw respectively.

Only Muslim founded Secondary Schools under their umbrella association UMEA took part in these Solidarity Games.

In other disciplines, Kinawa High, Mugongo and Mbogo Mixed beat Nabisunsa Girls' Secondary and Luyanzi College 3-0 each to win the girls and boys volleyball titles. Mbogo Mixed also won the both the boys and girls titles in badminton.

The UMEA Games started in 1998 at Kibuli Senior secondary school. Initially different disciplines were held in various parts of the country on different dates.

But the organisers changed the format in 2013 and a new name-‘UMEA BALL GAMES' was adopted with all sports disciplines played at the same time and under one host.
