Buddu to host Kabaka's 63rd birthday celebrations

KAMPALA - The Katikiiro of Buganda has announced that preparations for celebration of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi's 63rd birthday have been concluded.

"The preparation for Kabaka's birthday celebrations are resolved, with the run slated for April 8, before the main ceremony on April 13 at Villa Maria village in Kalungu district, Buddu county," Charles Peter Mayiga said on Monday.

Ahead of the main event, there will be prayers in different churches and mosques, as well as community service (bulungi bwa nsi).

Games such as cycling, squash, chess, golf, volleyball, swimming and Kabaka's birthday run will feature in the buildup.

Address the Lukiiko on a wide range of issues, Mayiga said this year's Kabaka's birthday proceeds will be dedicated to creating awareness on the sickle cell disease.

The 5th edition of Kabaka Birthday Run event will be held on Sunday, April 8 2018 at Lubiri, Mengo.

Mayiga said people need to be aware of the sicknesses that are claiming the lives of many Ugandans, hence the purpose of the run.

During the Lukiiko, the Katikiiro also discussed the current security situation in the country, saying the Police needs machinery to improve of the level of investigations to bring culprits to book.

"The security operatives need more training in investigation skills to conclusively examine the murder cases that have become rampant in the country," he said.

He also lashed out at men who kill or battle women who have rejected their proposals. "This act is cruel and should stop."
