Mangat targets Africa Rally Championship

Rally driver Jas Mangat will pursue this year's Africa Rally Championship (ARC) title.

Mangat's navigator Joseph Kamya disclosed this on Tuesday after the crew on Sunday finished third in the Kenya Safari rally which is the second round of the ARC.

"We are going for the ARC. We may not go for the South African leg, but we are looking at doing the remaining events in Zambia and East Africa," Kamya explained.

Kamya added that they were contented with the Safari rally results because finishing third was a hard battle.

"We had issues with the car right from day one, but we took it easy and luck was on our side and we managed to finish," Kamya said.

The crew driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 are now fifth overall on the ARC standings with fifteen points.

Kamya also lauded  Ugandan fans who travelled in hundreds to give support.

"We are so grateful that those beautiful Ugandans came to support us," Kamya added.

"Actually there was a time, we thought of dropping out when the car was disturbing, but also felt that we could not disappoint them and pushed on," Kamya noted.

The crew will compete in the ARC rounds including Pearl of Africa rally, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia rallies.

In 2013, Jas Mangat lost the Africa rally championship (ARC) title by inches when he dropped out of the Madagascar rally and now the Ugandan driver is giving it a try again this year.
