KAMPALA - A man is accusing the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers in Kibuli of refusing to release some of his property, which they got from his home during a search in 2015.

Francis Malinga, a consultant officer in accounts and auditing in Kampala, says a search was carried out at his home in Kiwafu central, Wakiso district. He says his computer was taken on orders of William Kototyo, the deputy CID director in charge of economic crimes.

He says although the items were taken from his home, they were not produced in court as exhibit, and he has never received his property even after the case was dismissed.

In 2015, Malinga was arrested at Parliament on charges of alleged forgery. At the time he was also working as a personal assistant to former Soroti MP Peter Omolo. However, his case was cleared in 2016 at the Buganda road court.

Malinga wondered why the Police continues to keep his personal property yet court dismissed his case.

He says his wallet, phone, shoes and belt are still kept at Kisugu police post.

Police responds

However, the CID spokesperson, Vincent Sekatte, said they realised another women claiming to be Malinga's  wife, was also claiming ownership of the same computer, a reason they are still holding it.

"Malinga filed a complaint and the women filed another. Both of them claim to be the owners. We invited both parties to come at the CID headquarters and we verify the real owner of the computer but none has ever showed up. We are still waiting and ready to hand it over to the real owner," Sekatte said.

He asked Malinga to go to the officer in charge of Kisugu Police post and pick other items.
