Student dies during football match

Raymond Wakikola, the school’s games master said that the boy collapsed and died on spot.

Shock and fear gripped students and teachers of Mayuge Hill Senior Secondary School, when a 17-year-old student died instantly during football training.

The Mayuge district Police commander, Dianah Namutunzi, identified the deceased as Hamis Gatonyeka from Buwalya village in Buwaya sub- County, Mayuge district.

Raymond Wakikola, the school's games master said that the boy collapsed and died on spot.

"After kicking the ball during the session, he fell down and died instantly," Wakikola said. He said the boy had joined play about 10 minutes as a substitute .

Wakikola said the boy never complained about any complications.

"He was normal and very active. He never talked about any illness," Wakikola said.

Brian Isabirye, a student said "When he fell down, we thought we he would get up, but only to realise that he was dead. we shall miss him. He was a great footballer."

Namutunzi said the body was taken to Mayuge health facility for a postmortem. She however, asked parents to avail school authorities with students' medical reports.
