Mityana launches activities ahead of Women's Day

WOMEN'S DAY


MITYANA - Residents of Mityana district have launched a number of activities to undertake ahead of the Internanational Women's Day, which will be held at Bsuubizi village in Mityana municipality on Thursday.

The activities have opened with blood donation drive in which hundreds of traders turned up to donate blood.

Organised by the Mityana town council health department, together with CEI medical centre, the blood donation has been held at the Doctors Gardens, Banda stage in Mityana town.

Dr Jackson Ssekikubo, the Mityana municipality medical officer, expressed joy at the turnout in the first hours of the day.

Over 100 people had turned up by midday.

"We still call on the public to come and donate blood," Ssekikubo said.

Silver Ssewanyana reiterated the need for more blood, saying the need in hospitals in dire.

Also as part of the preparations for International Women's Day, residents took to the streets to clean under the arrangement of bulungi bwa nsi, loosely translated to mean for the good of the country.

These were joined by pupils and students from various schools.
