Her father and trainer Augustine Buwule believes the award will inspire other girls into taking up sport

USPA Chess Player of the Year Maria Nakanyike will be honoured by the Makerere University Business School Women Forum as they celebrate the International Women's Day on March 8.

The day will be celebrated under the theme ‘Press for Progress'. To address the theme, the MUBS Women Forum has recognised that there has been numerous initiatives put in place by the different stakeholders to ensure progress of women inclusion, the reason for awarding the 11-year-old, Primary Six pupil of St. Marcellino Academy Matugga, according to manager of the forum, Moureen Tweyongyere.

"Given your outstanding passion to grow and excel at your talent and the example you have set for so many young girls in this country we have found you an ideal person to be with us to mark the International Women's Day," Tweyongyere stated in an invitation letter to the youngster.

Her father and trainer Augustine Buwule believes the award will inspire other girls into taking up sport and liking chess in particular.

"That the recognition has been made by other women is very good. Chess is a tool to develop the mind as well so the recognition has come at the right time when we are trying to spread the game countrywide," Buwule noted.
