Nkumba qualified for the competition after being crowned champions of the national volleyball league.

Having qualified for the Women's African club volleyball Championship  in Cairo on March 6 to 16, national volleyball league champions, Nkumba University are seeking financial aid to bolster their trip.

According to Nkumba's Sports tutor, Patrick Sebulime, the institution is seeking up to $23,000 (sh80m) to accommodate 14 players, a referee, the coach, an assistant coach, trainer and team manager. Of the Sh80m, only sh19m has been fundraised leaving a balance of sh61m with just four days to go.

"We are in need of sh80m between now and Saturday. The only good thing is that we paid the mandatory sh3.7m that is participation fees, which is paid before the team travels and we processed all our visas that we shall be getting by Wednesday," he said.

"We have approached a number of people and we are praying between now and Sunday, something can happen. Also, friend of Nkumba University who prefers not to be named, bought seven tickets. We booked our flight with Ethiopian Airlines, and so we need another 13 tickets, allowances and other logistics."
