CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR CERTIFICATION OF TREE NURSERIES AND FOREST CONTRACTORS

The Sawlog Production Grant Scheme (SPGS) Phase III is a project of the Government of Uganda, funded by the European Union (EU) and being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The primary objective of the SPGS III Project is to support private sector tree farmers to establish commercial forest plantations through provision of grants and technical support. Since 2004, SPGS has supported the establishment of close to 50 000 hectares of plantations for timber, poles and fuelwood.

This phase of the Project will support establishment of an additional 30 000 hectares by the year 2020. In addition to supporting commercial tree farmers, SPGS III implements an annual certifi cation program for tree nurseries and forest contractors.

The objective of certifi cation is to guarantee private commercial tree growers, access to quality seedlings so that they can establish plantations of acceptable national standards. FAO invites applications from interested individuals and companies, either operating tree nurseries or involved in forestry contracting, to express interest for certification for the year 2018/2019.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE ON THIS NOTICE
