The fourth edition of the NSSF Kampala Hash Seven Hills Run due on March 25 intends to raise sh400 million that will go towards the refurbishment of selected public schools that fall under the Kampala City Capital Authority (KCCA).

The 21km run will start at the Pearl of Africa Primary School in Nsambya before traversing the historical seven hills of Kampala; Kibuli, Nakasero, Old Kampala, Namirembe, Lubaga, Lubiri before ending at Nsambya.

NSSF managing director, Richard Byarugaba told a press conference during the launch of the charity run that this year's proceeds will go towards renovation of St. Paul Primary School in Nsambya and Mbuya Church of Uganda Primary School, the venue of the launch.

"We are proud to have raised more than sh190m from the previous runs, supporting four schools namely Nakivubo Settlement, St. Ponsiano, Makerere University and Summit View Primary Schools over the past three years. This year we are challenging ourselves to raise more than double that amount for more schools to benefit from this cause," Byarugaba noted.

KCCA has 79 government aided schools with a total enrollment of close to 70,000 pupils with an allocation of about sh500m per year to all. Due to the inadequate funding, most of the schools have dilapidated facilities that require continuous refurbishment among other needs.

The headmaster Godfrey Wasswa said the over 50 year old school was a typical UPE school that was very poor and needy that could not stand on its own especially on infrastructure development. It has a population of about 1000 children

Vision Group led todays's donations with a sh50m offer delivered by marketing manager, Hajara Batuuka who said; "We are committed to advancing child education through our various platforms including Mwalimu and Toto and we are very proud to contribute to this noble cause in partnership with NSSF," Batuuka stated.

Grace Njeri (Pinnacle Security-sh5m), Monitor (Elizabeth Namaganda-sh25m), Ashraf Habib (Galaxy FM-sh30m) also unveiled a combined sh60m towards the run. Other companies that are on board include Housing Finance Bank, Cementers, Bank of Uganda and Mukwano Industries.

Hash Master Stephen Luswata said each runner will pay sh20,000 to participate in an even grander run that has been around for over 20 years.

Acting executive director KCCA Juliet Namuddu thanked NSSF, the hashers and all the other partners for supporting the needy schools and children.

"Every time people in Kampala run the children lives become better. We plan to continue improving the functionality of the schools' infrastructure through such partnerships," Namuddu stated.
