KAMPALA - Former Tanzanian President, Benjamin William Mkapa, has commended President Yoweri Museveni for being a peacemaker in Africa.

Mkapa was speaking in a meeting with President Museveni at State House, Nakasero.

Museveni and his guest discussed a variety of issues ranging from socio-economic and political matters within the East African region in particular and the African continent in general, according to a release from State House.

Museveni is the mediator of the Burundi peace process, while Mkapa is the East African Community facilitator of the Inter-Burundi Dialogue. The Inter-Burundi Dialogue is a regional-led process that aims at bringing peace to Burundi through dialogue between the government in Bujumbura and opposition groups in that country.

Mkapa was appointed to the Inter-Burundi Dialogue position by a summit of leaders of the East African community in Arusha in March 2016.
