UPDF clean up Nyahuka streets

BUNDIBUGYO - The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) in Bundibugyo on Monday cleaned up Nyahuka and Bundibugyo town council streets as part of the activities to commemorate Tarehe Sita Day.

According to Maj. Ronald Kakurungu, the public relations officer, joint task force - western Uganda, the soldiers cleaned streets in Nyahuka town council.

Kakurungu said Tarehe Sita is the day the National Resistance Army (NRA) launched its armed struggle around 1981. This year's theme is "Reaffirming the contribution of armed forces towards regional integration for our strategic security, development and prosperity."

He said: "We come up to do cleaning and other activities in the communities as a means of reminding commumities members that we are a force for the people."

Soldiers picking up litter at the Nyahuka market

Samuel Obwot, who is the in-charge of Nyahuka Health Centre IV, said the soldiers cleaned in and around the hospital.

He said they mopped floors in both the maternity and the children's wards and burnt the collected litter.

The Tarehe Sita celebrations week which was officially launched on Wednesday, reached a climax today, with the national celebrations in Butaleja district, in eastern Uganda.

Friday Bisoro, the LC3 chairperson of Nyahuka town council, appreciated the commander -in -chief of the Armed Forces Gen. Yoweri Museveni, for overseeing a disciplined and hardworking army.

Rose Kabagenyi, a businesswoman, applauded the soldiers for cleaning the streets.
