Businessman beaten into coma, robbed sh600,000

KIBAALE - A 24-year-old businessman in Nyamarunda sub-county, Kibaale district is nursing wounds at Kagadi Hospital after being waylaid by thugs and robbed of sh600,000.

David Otabong, the Kibaale district Police commander, said  Emmanuel Musamakweri was waylaid at around 11:00pm on Sunday and assaulted by unidentified thugs, who made off with sh600,000.

Lawrence Byaruhanga, a brother to the victim, said he was informed about the incident at midnight and rushed to the scene, only to find his brother lying in a pool of blood.

On regaining consciousness, Musamakweri told his brother  that he was attacked by about five men wielding pangas and machetes who forced me to surrender  all the money I had.

"When I first hesitated, one of the thugs cut me on the leg, head and arms while another one used a knife to pierce me on the back," Musamakweri said.

He added that even though he finally handed them the money, the still beat him into coma and left him by on the road side.   

Otabong said three suspects are detained at Kibaale Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
