GRANT FOR RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING/SKILLS CERTIFICATION-WINDOW 4 CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: REFERENCE NO: SDF-UGANDA/02

Background

The Skills Development Facility (SDF) is part of the $100 million Uganda Skills Development Project (USDP) which is a Government of Uganda Project funded by the World Bank, implemented by the Private Sector Foundation Uganda. The SDF aims at promoting employer-led short term training in order to address prevailing skills imbalances and shortages in Uganda. An important element of the initiative is to facilitate collaboration between training providers and industry to promote demand driven skills development with special attention to innovative modes of training.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Skills Certification

The window will initially focus on two sectors; Construction (Building, Oil & Gas), and Manufacturing. Under this window, SDF funds initiatives by Private Sector/Industry Organizations and Trade Unions interested in participating in the development of a system for certification of skills and competencies acquired through informal and non-formal.

It is expected that the system will be developed in collaboration with Ministry of Education & Sports or other bodies with the expertise and facilities required for testing the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of the workers. The RPL/Certifi cation system is expected to give workers portable certifi cates that signal their market values both in Uganda and abroad.

At the same time the certifi cation program should make it easier for workers to have career pathways and access to formal higher level skills training programs. This window is open to applicants who want to increase the pool of certified workers to acquire recognized standards in the construction and manufacturing sectors.

This could include but not limited to for example, assessment of workers to City and Guilds in Construction, Carpentry & Joinery, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Welding Skills.

These are standards set by the oil and gas sector and the purpose would be to test and certify those workers with the required competencies and further train those that do not meet the required standards. CLICK HERE FOR MORE ON THIS NOTICE
