WAKISO - President Yoweri Museveni has contributed sh20m towards the construction of St. Padre Pio Catholic Church in Wakiso district.

He made the donation during the fundraising drive for the building of St. Padre Pio Catholic Parish over the weekend.

Museveni, who was supposed to be the chief guest, sent a message through the Vice-President, Edward Ssekandi.

Ssekandi handed over the cash to superior of Capuchin Fathers in Uganda, Fr. Godwin Ogwom and the parish priest Francis Sseguya during the 4th anniversary of the Parish.

Museveni commended the church for developing the country through schools and hospitals.

"I thank the Archbishop of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, for his good growth, and I am happy to be part of this development," he said.

The President urged the Christians to shun bad behaviour, saying it hinders development.

Before the function, Ssekandi commissioned the priest's house and later the church project.

According to Fr Sseguya, the Parish was established in 2014. He said the administration plans to build a new church, which can host 1,200 Christians. The church is estimated to cost 1.5b.

The Mass led by Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese, Msgr Charles Kasibante, who represented Archbishop of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

He thanked Christians for contributing towards building the priest's house.

Msgr Kasibante also warned Christians to avoid practicing witchcraft to become wealthy. He said Satan will never give them the wealth they want apart from deceiving them.

Kasibante asked Christians to always to recall the theme of Kampala Archdiocese; remember, rejoice and renew.

Later, the priest in charge of children and youth in Kampala Archdiocese, Fr Joseph Luzindana, led the fundraising drive.
