The Soroti district and municipal engineers have launched the construction of a 1km road linking Soroti municipality to Acetgwen parish in Soroti sub-county.

About sh20m has been earmarked to upgrade the Okello-Elepu-Anyuki Road, which has been in a poor state for over 10 years.

The project is being jointly manned by the district and the municipality, with support from road fund.

Speaking during the launch at the district headquarters, Paul Omer, the Soroti municipality mayor, said the construction of the road will ease trade between the two communities, thereby improving the standards of living.

He, however, cautioned people against using the road to transport oxen ploughs, saying they destroy the road and disrupt road users.

Robert Ariko and Moses Elolu, residents of Soroti municipality, applauded the development and called on leaders to improve more roads in the area in order to advance development.
