About 83,000 fish species have perished in nine ponds in the eastern district of Serere.
The fish ponds belong to Kyere Youth Farmers' Association, which is located in Omorio village, Kyere sub-county in Serere district.
The association's project took shape after getting some fingerlings to a tune of 11,000 from the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) programme.
Kyere Youth Farmers' Association has got 42 members who have been working towards a common goal of improving their socio-economic status.
Hussein Ali Ayeko, the chairperson of the association, says the group started in September 2016 with only two fish ponds, but now they have advanced to nine fish ponds.
The species, which included cat fish and African tilapia, perished on December 31.
The resident district commissioner, Edward Onya, said: We have already contacted the Police to investigate the matter."
Maj. James Ochung, the officer in charge of OWC in Serere district, said such loss has not only affected the association, but also the Government.
