Fr Joseph Luzindana in charge of children and Youth in Kampala Archdiocese has expressed concern over the abuse of children.

Fr Luzindana was assisted by Fr John Mary Mwanje, Parish priest of Wakiso, Fr Ronnie Mubiru in charge of children in Wakiso and Fr Lawrence Lugoloobi.

He was disturbed by the mistreatment and murders of children which have become common through child sacrifices and mistreating them.

He was presiding over thousands of Children who gathered at St Jude Catholic Parish Wakiso on Thursday to remember the day King Herod ordered the execution of all young male children in the vicinity of Bethlehem, so as to avoid the loss of his throne to a newborn King of the Jews

He said that the Holy Innocents, although Jewish, have been claimed as martyrs for Christianity, and the Feast of the Holy Innocents has long been celebrated.

"The day is commemorated world-wide in memory of the children who were killed on the orders of King Herod in an attempt to eliminate Jesus Christ." He said.

Luzindana asked parents and guardians who mistreat their children to stop the habit.

He also re-affirmed his commitment to end child abuse and asked parents to take the lead in providing a secure environment for the growth of children.

Furthermore, Mwanje also condemned child-trafficking, incest and defilement, before warning parents against neglecting their children.

While Fr Mubiru who was chief organiser, asked parents, teachers and guardians to teach children the word of God, love and moral values.

The Holy Innocents Day is celebrated by the Catholics in remembrance of the male Jewish infants under two years of age, who were massacred in Bethlehem on the orders of King Herod the Great three days after the birth of Jesus.

In children, we see innocence. When we harm them, we are gravely hurting them. We should all, from this day, give them their freedom to live as children just as Jesus Christ would have wanted them to live," he said.

Cathy Nabakema one of children asked God to help and set free all the children that are suffering in many different ways around the world.
