The Regional police commander (RPC) for Wamala region Christopher Bagaruhare said that they have massievely deployed around the region, to avoid any other criminal offence, especially during this time of Christmas and Newy year celebrations.

Security operatives in Mityana have beefed up security, following the recent increase in crime especially murder and robbery.

The Regional police commander (RPC) for Wamala region Christopher Bagaruhare said that they have massievely deployed around the region, to avoid any other criminal offence, especially during this time of Christmas and Newy year celebrations.

"In Mityana town, we have allocated a new vehicle and elsewhere there are vehicle and officers on foot patrol. We are ready not to give a chance to any person to commit crime," RPC Bagaruhare said.

He was speaking at a press conference called at the office of the Resident district commissioner for Mityana Yahaya Kakooza, to address on the insecurity in the region especially during this Christmas time.

The RPC said that for the past few days since they deployed, they are happy that at least they have started yielding success, following the arrest of the police officer who had killed two people in Bukuya trading centre, Mubende district.

He said they also have other suspects, but declined to give their details like identities, saying that it would hinder their investigations.

However, reliable sources said that one of the suspects is a soldier from the Special Forces Command attached to Makajjo barracks in Mityana district.

The RPC did not confirm or deny the allegation.

For the past two weeks, over ten people have been killed in Mityana and Mubende district, of which some were shot by a police man.
RPC Bagaruhare emphasized the need for the residents to cooperate with police so that they can fight crime.
"Although we are everywhere, we cannot be 100% successful unless we cooperate with people on the ground. You need to inform us of who is planning to commit crime, who has committed crime so that we come in," he said.

The RDC Kakooza also appealed to the residents to cooperate with police and other security operatives in order to fight crime.

"If one cannot talk to police, me or my office is available but we cannot leave all work to the security personnel," he said.

He asked the residents to also be careful with their lives and property especially during this time of Christmas.
Kakooza further warned the people of Mityana to avoid taking laws in their hands. He cited an example of one person who was killed by a mob last week near Mityana town as he was suspected of being a thief, but later it was realized that he was not a thief.
