In the gospel of Matthew, when the four wise men hard about the birth of Jesus , they visited him bearing precious gifts.

Even today people associate this history to newly born children. As we approach the celebrations of Christmas, Vision Fund Uganda has given Christmas gifts to over 80 new born babies at Mulago Women's Referral Hospital in Kawempe, Kampala.

The gifts that were given include Soap, Sugar, jik, face towels, toilet tissues, and powdered milk among others.

Daniel Irumba, the debt collection manager at Vision Fund Uganda, said they wanted to help mothers deliver safely.

"We understand the difficulties pregnant mother go through. Many of them get rejected by their husbands," he said.

Scovia Kyomugisha, a clinical officer in charge of delivering women, says gifting delivering women has come at right time for women at the labour wards.

"Some women do not have necessary equipment they need for safe and health delivery."  She says.

According to Kyomugisha, many mothers arrive at labour wards without items like soap and diapers.

She recommends that husbands be in charge of ensuring that items like Underclothes and Extra-Absorbent Pads and toilet tissues do not miss in the delivery kit.
